You have touched the lives of hundreds of Niagara families and helped raise autism awareness of many more.
With new chapters opening in their lives, Len & Evan Sheldrake have recently decided that last year’s very successful Ride, will be the last.
Evan’s Ride began in 2009, after Len experienced the joy of watching his 12 year-old son, Evan, ride a bicycle on his own – a complex task that doctors had told his parents he would never be able to do. Knowing the faith and perseverance that was behind Evan’s accomplishment, and that Evan’s struggles and victories were echoed in families with children with autism everywhere, Len founded Evan’s Ride to bring awareness to their challenges and to raise funds for programs to support them.
In the past decade, Evan’s Ride has grown to be hugely successful. The Ride has raised almost $150,000 in support of Niagara families living with the challenges of a child with autism spectrum disorder. Funds raised through Evan’s Ride have supported programs which build life skills, provide socialization and summer camp opportunities for children with autism as well as support programs for parents. The Ride has also grown to be a significant event in the late Spring calendar in the Sheldrake’s town of Smithville and the larger west Niagara community.
Sincere thanks to all of the riders, donors, sponsors, volunteers, organizers and community supporters who made the 10-year run of Evan’s Ride such a success. You have touched the lives of hundreds of Niagara families and helped raise autism awareness of many more.
On behalf of Autism Community, I’d like to extend a special thanks to Len, Evan, Denise, Jordan, Rachel and the extended network of Sheldrake family members and friends who gave so much to the Ride and to their community over the past decade. Autism Community is honoured that you allowed us to be part of this event for the past four years.
We wish Len and Evan every success in their future endeavors and again, our sincerest thanks,
Kathy Ryan, President
